our neighborhood

You've got to love it up here in the great Northwoods! We are surrounded by natural beauty – in our freshwater lakes, perfect summer temperatures, gorgeous fall colors, abundant wildlife, and the peace and beauty of our lovely winters.

The Lakeland area encompasses the largest concentration of freshwater lakes in North America and thousands of acres of forestry land. The primary attractions are outdoor recreation, tourism and retirement. There are approximately 15,000 full time residents spread out over a 65 mile radius with the population swelling to over 75,000 during the summer months. Employment is tied to health care providers, recreation and vacation interests, education positions within the public school system, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The largest growth segment is 62 and over who are highly mobile with more than one residence. Economically, sustainable income for unskilled young families is limited, creating a gap between the wealthier retirees and younger full-time residents.

Minocqua is approximately 4.5 hours from Milwaukee, 3.5 hours from Madison, and 4.5 hours from Minneapolis, MN. Commercial airline connections are available within 30 miles. The area has modern schools, fine libraries, state of the art medical facilities, and very active Chambers of Commerce in all the surrounding towns. The Lakeland area offers cultural opportunities for families through performing arts, historical and children's museum organizations, and many sports activities for adults and youth (e.g: a sports arena for hockey and figure skating, cross country ski trails, snowmobile trails, bicycle trails, hiking trails, golf, tennis, hunting, swimming, boating and fishing). There are many fine restaurants and interesting festivals, including craft and antique shows. Our area is blessed with four distinct seasons, each of which has its own charm and has inspired us to think of it as God's Country.
