Season of Creation Care at St. Matthias September 6-October 4
“Glance at the sun. See the moon and stars. Gaze at the beauty of earth’s greetings. Now, think. What delight God gives to humankind with all these things. All nature is at the mercy of humankind. We are to work with it. For without it we cannot survive. All living creatures are sparks of the radiation of God’s brilliance, emerging from God like the rays of the sun.”

The first book of the Bible begins with the creation of the world and all its wonders. As God creates the wonders of the world, God delights in them. Perhaps Genesis begins this way to help us remember God loves and delights in the earth, and as we are made in God’s image, we are created to share God’s delight.
Since the 1980’s the Episcopal Church has participated in the ecumenical and interfaith movement called Creation Care, whose intention is to help us renew our relationship with God by reconnecting to the beauty of nature and committing to caring for the natural world.
Here at St. Matthias, we are grateful to be in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods where every day we can delight in the wonders of nature whenever we hear a loon’s call, watch the deer that walk through our churchyard, and admire the hummingbirds that visit the flowering plants in our flowerbeds. During the Season of Creation Care, we’ll carry that sense of wonder and gratitude into our worship services with special music and prayers.
Whether you are a year-round resident, summer resident, or visiting for a few days, we hope you will join us as we grow closer to God, each other, and the good earth God has given us.
